For 2009, a quarter of the year is already gone. It is now time to start preparing for the next GATs (Great Adventure Tours) for 2010. For GK Youth, they have organised two main GATs over the years – Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Philippines. This coming year will be no exception, where they hope to “Change Each Other and Change The World”.
For PNG, the next upcoming GAT is being lead by Josanne Musa and Libby Rajakone. Josanne, having been to the first PNG GAT as well as Philippines GAT, together with Libby (attended PNG GAT last year), they hope to raise the profile of the PNG GAT and lead more people to the country and more people the beauty of the place and its people. The largest GKYGAT that has ever been to PNG consisted of seven people, and they hope to bring more people this time around.
For Philippines, the more established of the two GATs, the next upcoming GAT is being lead by Catherine Chan, JR Diaz, Irene Mayo and Ralph San Pedro-Loyola. They hope to continue in the tradition of past GATs to the Philippines and bring more Australian youths to learn the about the works of GK and its roots. Catherine and Ralph having been to GAT earlier this year, and JR and Irene having gone in 2008 and being active in GK Youth since, this mixture of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will definitely be reflected in the GAT that is to come.
In either country, the people may be different, but the mission is the same – to help those that may be less fortunate and need the help of GK. In bringing more people to these places to take part in the work, the new leaders for GKYGAT hope these people can realise the purpose behind GK and can change each other in order to change the world.
