Majority of people may believe that
the end of GK Youth Great
Adventure Tour (GK YGAT) is when
you return back home. For some,
the adventure does not end until
they share their stories,
experiences with others and pass
on the torch to lead the way for
the next GK YGAT participants. The
perfect opportunity to do this is at
a GK YGAT Breakfast Forum.
On Saturday May 31st and August 2nd, the first & second
GKYGAT 2009 Breakfast Forum
was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Parish Hall, Parramatta. Lead by
Austin Musa and Christine Stanley,
the GK YGAT leaders for 2009, the
GK YGAT team (Matthew Alberto,
James Palomo, Jam Quisumbing
and Trish Tonel) was able to put
together a programme for the
event that was not only
informative and comprehensive,
but fun as well.
Going against past convention, the
team had the majority of the
morning set to take the visitors on
a mini-GK YGAT. They set up different
stalls that represent the main parts
of a GK YGAT, each having a number
of photos to illustrate to visitors
what happens in each part of the GK
YGAT.
The first two stalls of “Arrival” and
“Cultural Tour” introduced visitors
to GK and the culture behind the
scenes. The next two stalls were
where a lot of attention to detail and time was spent. These stalls
were the “Build” stalls, where
people could learn more about the
building activities of the GK
missions in both the Philippines
and Papua New Guinea.
Around the
corner was the very colourful, well
presented and voted “The Best
Stall of the Day” - the “Child Youth
Development” stall. Where you
could learn about the child
development and education
programs that occur within GK and
how you can experience them
during the GK YGAT. The last stall was
for “Rest and Recreation” - to show
visitors that the GK YGAT will not only
present you to the slums and GK
villages of these countries, but also
present the natural beauty that
these countries hold.
Closer to the end of the morning,
both Austin and Christine formally
presented the GK YGAT, while sharing
their own GK YGAT experiences, as
well as having a short update from
GK ANCOP by Tito Pids Catabay (first forum) and Tito Marcy Mission (second forum)
about the progress of GK in
Australia. Powerful testimonies by Donabel Tungul (GK YGAT PNG) and Matthew Alberto (GK YGAT Phils) were also presented in the second breakfast forum.
Overall, participation was high and
a great sense of success was in the
air. The GKYGAT 2009 team and
stall handlers had done their part
in showing the audience that the
GKYGAT is not only a great
adventure, but a memorable, lifetransforming
experience.
