GKOM Training

On Saturday, 24th February, 44
youths and young adults attended
the Gawad Kalinga
Communications (GKOM) Training
Day, which was conducted under
the guidance of its head leaders,
Jocytte Musa and Jamike David, at
Loyola College in Mt Druitt. GKOM
Australia is the communications
arm of GK, in Australia, that works
to locally and nationally spread the
ideals and works of Gawad Kalinga
through various mediums such as
print, internet, film, photography
and events.
Within GKOM, there are four teams
(Design, News Bureau, Video &
Photography and Events) that
operate both independently and in
cooperation with each other. After
an introductory video and
explanations of the roles and
responsibilities of each of the four
teams, participants were then
given the opportunity to choose
their preferred area of interest.
Much of the day was devoted to
developing ideas for upcoming
events such as the GK Harvest and
the Miss GK program, practically
applying the principles learnt within
each of the team workshops and
setting goals and tasks to be
achieved by each of the four
teams.
The GKOM workshop was able to
instil a sense of duty within each
participant to work selflessly and to
use their talents with the end
objective of restoring the dignity of
others.
GKOM would like to thank
Loyola College, the workshop team
leaders and the participants for
contributing to the success of the
day, as well as GKANCOP and CFC
members for providing the lunch
during the workshop.
