Last Sunday, 22 February 2009, a GK Harvest Workshop Day was conducted for all the recent GAT participants and new members of GKOM.

GKOM stands for Gawad Kalinga Communications and it is the communications arm of GK here in Australia. GKOM plays an important role within GK Youth and the whole scheme of GK as it is an effective means of communication flow. It is also the main avenue for creating more awareness, spreading the news of GK and allowing feedback to reach the partners.

James Palomo and Cheryl Davidson are the new overall Heads of GKOM in 2009. The structure of GKOM Australia is split into 5 main teams which are all overseen by the Heads of GKOM. The teams each have their sub-leaders and specific functions as follows:

Frenzel Ano leads the Video and Photography team which covers GK events and creates GK videos. The main functions include documentation and photography, editing and housing the GKOM library.

Christian Iligan and Erikar Eco leads the Events team which produce and coordinate the staging of GK events. The main functions of the team surround the conceptualisation, planning and running of GK projects.

Katrina Zaballa leads the News Bureau team which gathers and writes articles, brochures and newsletters about GK. The team is also required to distribute and circulate these articles. Another function is to create media kits for GK events. The main output from the team is a regular quarterly newsletter, content for the website and informational and promotional materials.

Kris Alegrid and Jam Quisumbing lead the Design team which is responsible for developing creative concepts. The main outputs of the team include designing the layout of promotional materials, designing new graphics for print materials, props and any online material.

James Palomo will now also be the new Web Administrator for the Australian GK Youth website.

GKOM is still in the early establishment within Australia. We are still in need of greater numbers within GKOM. GKOM Australia believes that "Creativity, commitment, cooperation and credibility creates commendable communications!"

If you are interested in any of the above teams or roles or feel you are able to contribute in any way to GKOM, feel free to ask for more information. Please contact James Palomo on 0431 160 968 or Cheryl Davidson on 0416 760 566, Heads of GKOM Australia.
