GK HARVEST 2008 was held at Doonside Technology High School on the afternoon of Saturday 15th March 2008. Once again the enthusiastic GKOM team put together a well decorated, informative and well structured event. The event aimed at communicating the stories of several groups who had recently visited the Philippines to experience GK. In attendance were speakers from Freeman Catholic College, Singles for Christ, Youth for Christ, GK YO!GAT, GK Papua New Guinea, St Aloysius College, GK Cambodia and from the group of 62 who completed GK YGAT 08.

The event was buzzing with excitement from the get go with Ella Manongdo and Celina Quizon the stewardesses for the day directing and welcoming audience members. Hosted by the energetic JR Diaz and equally exciting Christina Joson, the event got off to a great start.

One by one a speaker from each group told their story, a personal story which was different yet common to the GK movement. A story of how GK can inspire, change the ways and most of all, break boundaries and cross borders. A special song number entitled “Bayanihan” was also performed by Eleazar Arranz.

Finally the event ended with the singing of the Gawad Kalinga song, which always brings memories back to all who have experienced GK. Overall the annual event showed that GK is continuing to inspire people from all walks of life to take a chance and step out of their comfort zone to help the poor in this world. The questions now for next year are; who are next in line to experience GK and which country will they be experiencing it!
