The first official GK Orientation for GK1MB members was held last Sunday, 5 April at St Patrick's Cathedral Hall, Parramatta. Participants of the GK1MB Empowerment Day were able to learn more about GK, share resources and most importantly gain confidence as a GK1MB Hero.

The afternoon was divided into 3 parts. "Discovering our Roots... Where it all began" was presented by EJ Cuaresma outlining the history of GK. Part 1 discussed the birth of the GK777 vision; a 21 year development program and Australia's involvement as pioneers in the work of Gawad Kalinga. Marcy Mission and Chino Gange also shared about the humble beginnings and foundations of ANCOP Australia and GK Youth.

The theme of the GK1MB Empowerment Day was "The Heart, Mind and Spirit of GK", a topic further discussed in depth by Therese Santos. Participants were able to converse with other GK1MB members regarding their involvement in GK and how they are building the movement in their sphere of influence.

"GK as a global movement" was presented by Luke Cook expanding on the core values and empowering everyone to make a stand for GK. All participants of the GK1MB Empowerment Day received their Official GK1MB Hero's Card after the session.

GK1MB is the worldwide volunteer program of GK which aims to get advocates informed and involved by dedicating at least 4 hours per month, strongly encouraging members to attend the BIG 5 Events and GK Assemblies. GK1MB in Australia focuses on community empowerment and values formation of volunteers.

ANCOP and GK Youth Australia launched the GK1MB program last year and currently there are 7 areas of volunteering that are available when people register. There is no age range to become a hero. Everyone can be part of GK1MB. Be Counted Today! For more info please visit http://www.gk1mb.org or email gk1mb.australia@gmail.com.
