Over 60,000 people converged in the middle of Sydney CBD, at Hyde park on Sunday, August 12, to participate in this years Sydney City 2 Surf, all ready and willing to run (or walk in many cases) the 14km marathon from the centre of Sydney city to Bondi Beach.

There were a variety of people who participated for the day some in colorful costumes, including one dressed in the Borat mankini, other’s in matching clothes, and the runners ranged from the very old, to the very young.

As the very first runner reached the finish line, Dickson Marwa, with a time of just over 41 minutes, the last of the runners leaving the city were just beginning their journey.

Within the mass of people there were a group of individuals proudly wearing shirts advocating and running for GK, with some even carrying banners the entire way. 70 GK runners took part in this year's City2Surf to raise funds for GK and as a result GK ANCOP was named as the top fund raising group of the 160 charities registered in the 2007 City 2 Surf.

As of September 5, the GK ANCOP team was able to raise $28,556.77 through online donations, and in total $1, 049, 048 was raised for all the different charities, a feat achieved by the generosity of countless numbers of people who sponsored the runners.

Chito Perez ran as an individual, supporting GK and was one of the top 5 fund raising individuals who ran for their chosen charity.

Though the run was quite a challenge, especially when participants faced heart break hill, all made a terrific effort and were greeted with cheers, a beautiful view and a cool breeze at Bondi beach. As always the Sydney City 2 Surf was a huge a success with a terrific turnout, but even more so for GK, as this was the first year that GK volunteers and runners were involved, with a result that surpassed all expectations.

Even though it is still another year away, it can be expected that there will be runners for GK involved in the 2008 City 2 Surf, brandishing brightly coloured shirts and in much greater numbers, maybe not coming first but definitely crossing the finish line with great big smiles and an enthusiastic attitude, with GK in their hearts.
