Those back home in need. The Village of Character, Iriga City.
A flight of excitement and a bus ride of nerves,
Wet conditions, road works, dodging traffic we swerve.
A welcome most warm, host family's all greet us,
We stayed in their homes and felt touched by their kindness.
We worked from sunrise, moving earth bricks and stones,
Eager to take part, bring hope, and give people homes.
During our stay we gathered to share meals, talk, play games and perform,
With a background of wind blown palm trees, and mountainous volcanic landform.
"Love thy neighbour" is what we could feel in this life teaching lesson,
The most important was not the quantity of homes, but the human connection.
After that, at the village of Sisson, we gave workshops all over,
Interacted with the kids who sang out happily, in laughter.
Enchanted Kingdom we entered with our new little brother or sister,
Thrilling rides, playing games, it was their first time EVER.
We went to Bohol for a little R&R,
On another plane ride because by Jeepney it's too far.
Amazing Race around the island with pit stops a plenty,
Blindly spoon fed a calamay equals no appetite for my belly
We enjoyed a luncheon boat cruise, with Karaoke singing good times,
(This was after I fell down a Chocolate Hill and had a bruise on my behind.)
We saw the little tarsiers looking scared and ready to tremble,
They're the size of one's fist with HUGE! EYES, they're actually nocturnal.
A plane ride again, going back to Manila,
I think it's safe to say the trip was a winner.
Going home a few days later we were sad to be leaving,
The sights, smells, sounds and the warm muggy evenings.
We didn't know what to expect, but it all turned out good,
Our mission right now, spread the word in our own neighbourhoods.
We're from all across Oz: like Sydney, Perth and Adelaide
We'll never forget the mighty bonds of friendship we made.
It's an ongoing battle, this war against poverty,
You too can make a difference, just take it from me.
You think "I'm just one person what can I do, what sort of stuff?"
IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT. Let God work through you, take a chance, that's enough.
