GKY GAT 05 Reflections
By JOEKARL DIAZ, JAMIKE DAVID and JOCYTTE MUSA

"I came to GKY GAT very excited, thinking that I would be part of building something great - a house for the poor - something that I can come back to in the future to see and admire. However, GK showed me much more. 2 weeks with GKY GAT made me become part of building something greater - a community of love, fun, dedication and mateship. And what I can come back to in the future is the relationships that I've built with the townsfolks and the kids." - JOEKARL DIAZ

"The highlight for me was the ANCOP-GK congress. What touched me was hearing sharings of so many people everywhere and how many people are involved and doing so much for this programme... It really showed me that we might be doing something on a small scale but put together it's something huge... It starts with 1 house then 1 family then finally 1 world... it reminds me of how big the programme can be and how it can really change the world in the end" - JAMIKE DAVID

"GKY GAT was a life changing experience for me because I was able to help people that are less fortunate than me and I got to do it in my own way. It also opened my eye to the true Filipino attitude of 'bayanihan' (heroism) and 'pakikisama' (mateship).

I say this because when we were buildig in GK Brookside I thought that the people working there were actually paid labourers, but later on I found out that they were actually people from Brookside, they were neighbours, helping each other to build each others houses.

Due to this 'bayanihan' and 'pakikisama' they showed me, it made me realise that there is hope for the poor in the Philippines, that this programme is actually working and I'm glad that I am part of it.

The major highlight for me was the building, because it made me feel that I was actually achieving something or actually doing something to help the poor. That the work we have done would always be in our hearts.

Another highlight for me is getting to know the people at GK Brookside, especially the youth and the kids, they made me feel so much at home and I will always cherish the friendship they gave me and letting me play volleyball with them." - JOCYTTE MUSA
