GK Youth Australia's "Go National!" program started last May 2006.
The aim of "Go National!" was to establish GK Youth groups in all states and to see that the work of GK was continued by the youth all over Australia. So far, we have gone to Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

The GK Youth GO NATIONAL team from Sydney came to Melbourne and accomplished their second success in June of this year. The team, consisting of Arbie Mojica, Reggie Santos, EJ Cuaresma, Kris Alegrid and Jocytte Musa, came with their impressive banners, various pictures-in-houses, personal laptops, numerous GK videos and presentations, and with their inspiring stories and experiences to share.
Those that participated in the event from Melbourne consisted of a mix of different people. There were representatives from different sectors of the CFC community and those not from the community, and there were those who knew about GK before the weekend and those who were hearing about GK for the first time. Similar to the one held in Canberra, Saturday consisted of various talks and workshops about GK and GK Youth with an aim to equip the Melbournians with the proper tools to form their own GK Youth team that will be responsible for raising awareness of GK among the young people of Melbourne/Victoria.
The Melbourne participants were then divided into four workshops: Events, News Bureau, Video & Photography, and Design. These workshops set the participants in motion; equipping them with the skills and knowledge, combined with the many talents they already had, Melbourne was preparing for the important task awaiting them.
Sunday was the big day, the opportunity for the participants to prove to the team from Sydney that they had absorbed what they were taught and are capable of putting into practice.
This opportunity proved to be valuable, particularly for those who were set in their decision to become advocates for GK through GK Youth. In terms of skills and knowledge, it was an important day of learning and improving, and for some it was a day to reminisce on just exactly what it was like to be among the poor in the Philippines and witnessing multiple lives changing, including their own.
GK Youth GO NATIONAL to Melbourne achieved much more than its original purpose. A burning was planted in the hearts of the participants to become advocates for the poor and make a difference in the lives of young people in Melbourne. Today, Melbourne has established a small, but determined GK Youth team. Melbourne has been particularly fortunate to have two inspirational GK advocates from the Miss GK Australia Quest: Juvy Elano and Karla Magayanes, and we are proud to proclaim that Karla has attained the ultimate role of Miss GK Australia 2006.
Next year is anticipated to be the first for any Melbournian to attend the GK Youth Great Adventure Tour (GKY GAT) and GK Youth Melbourne is resolute to make their vision of bringing twenty Melbournians to the GKY GAT possible. The team has also taken on the responsibility to fundraise for five GK houses by Feb 2007, which is intended to be accomplished through a fundraising talent concert on October 21 at La Trobe University Union Hall, where various young people are being invited to share their talents for the one cause.
For those who read the GK Youth Go NATIONAL to Canberra article by Paolo Mision in the GK Times Issue 1, in one word, the mission to Canberra was described as a success. To describe it in one word, when GK Youth went to Melbourne, the participants were inspired.
A Call for Heroes - a GK Youth and GK ANCOP fundraising concert (Melbourne)
The much-awaited 'A Call for Heroes' Concert in Melbourne, Victoria was held last 21 October 2006.
Prepaid tickets were only $12 each and were sold until October 13 (tickets were also sold at the door for $15)
The concert was held on the last day of Anti-Poverty Week (Australia) so GK Youth and GK ANCOP Melbourne decided to conclude a week-long celebration against poverty with an emphasis on GK awareness.
The Heroes event was also listed on the Anti-Poverty Week Website and GK Youth Melbourne would like to thank everyone who came to the concert and showed their full 'heroic' support.
